Baseball Uniform Trends in 2018

2
Widely spread across the United States, Australia’s cult following of baseball is rapidly on the rise to greater popularity, with an increase of amateur teams. With inspiration from our very own Australian Baseball League (ABL), here’s a look at some of our uniform trends.

1. A white Canvas

Following the trends of the five teams in the Australian Baseball League, you’ll notice each home jersey is predominantly white. The white canvas is generally accompanied by a simple titled logo across the chest, giving the uniform a pop touch of colour. Essentially, this idea helps avoid uniform clashes on the field – something to consider when your new team joins a league. However, its subtlety also gives a dignified look.

2. Loud and Proud

While home jerseys in the ABL tend to use a white canvas, away jerseys are the opposite. The same goes for the barracker’s merchandise. Both choose to boast the team’s predominant logo colour. This is a supporter’s chance to show off their love for the team, without shying away in subtlety. If you compare a Baseball barracker’s merchandise to that of the AFL, you’ll notice fans don’t wear the traditional sport’s jersey - that seems to be exclusive to the players. Instead, supporters wear their team’s colours in the form of a polo top, a sporty t-shirt or a jumper – all of which are available for purchase here at Promocorner.

3. Titled logo vs. Pictured logo

Another feature to note is that a player’s uniform has the name of the team across the chest, whereas a supporter’s merchandise has only the pictured logo across the chest. Generally speaking, a fan’s merchandise has a more casual, informal approach, perhaps a nod to Australia’s laid-back culture.

4. Sublimation

Perhaps one of the most significant changes to modern printing is the increasing use of sublimation. Rather than printing a layer of colour on top of the fabric, sublimation transfuses the colour into the fabric. This improves the quality of the uniform, giving it a lasting effect.

The greatest advantage of sublimation is that no design is limited, making it conveniently appropriate for more bold apparel. This gives you the freedom to achieve almost any look or logo.

Promocorner’s use of sublimation allows your uniform to be truly unique and individualised. The current use of this printing method also shows that the nature of Baseball, and its presence in Australia, is evolving. It’s not difficult to see why sublimation is now the most requested method of print.

5. Comfort

When it comes to sport, comfort is key; especially considering the ABL season falls in the warmer Australian months. At Promocorner, we make sure your uniforms allow you to perform at your best. Our Baseball jerseys are made from 175GSM 100% polyester Jiahi material.

6. Choice of Colour

While your choice of team colours usually stem from your mascots, some teams don’t have an obvious choice. This is when it’s your freedom to decide what colours are fitting. Take the Adelaide Bite, for example. Their colours are navy blue, red, and gold. Sound familiar? The AFL’s Adelaide Crows sport the same combination! Through this, the Adelaide Bite seems to be honing in on a South Australian culture that’s already accepted that these three colours as winners, or as something they want to support. This is a nod to Australia’s very own sporting culture.

So, when choosing colours for a new team, turn to the values of your community for inspiration. Keep in mind that most teams use three colours, as it gives them a range of design options for their fan merchandise.

7. Modernising tradition

The text font of a team’s logo is an opportunity to create an identity, as well as acknowledge the history of the game. As pictured below, the Sydney Blue Sox chose an Americanised retro font. The trend is to recognise tradition, but mix it with the modern day.

8. Sponsorship

Simply put, sponsorship adds merit to your team. It communicates the idea that your team is good enough and proud enough to promote the company who sponsors you. Additionally, it highlights the fact that your sponsor notices Baseball’s increasing popularity in Australia.

9. Your name on your back

In Baseball, having a player’s name on their back is a given. This gives them a sense of belonging and purpose, boosting the team’s overall morale.
